The Heidoscop was introduced in 1922 and closely resembled the Voigtländer Stereoflektoskop of 1913. The Heidoscop was originally made for 45 x 107 mm plates, in 1925 a larger model for 6 x 13 cm was introduced. The roll-film version, Rolleidoscop, was introduced in 1926.

Variations

The Heidoscop went through a number of minor design changes:

• Type 1 - Aperture control surrounding viewing lens. IBT and tensioning lever on front panel. F&H logo on focusing hood. Lens caps attached to camera by cord.
• Type 2 - IBT and tensioning lever moved to top of camera. 1923.
• Type 3 - No logo on hood.
• Type 4 - Aperture control moved to top of camera. Before 1930.
• Type 5 - Lens caps hinged to camera front.
• The focusing hood of the early models was held closed by two catches located each side of the hood. Later (by type 2) the hood had the familiar single catch with side struts.
• The first models had a choice of Tessar, Heidoscop or Steinheil Unofocal lenses, all at f4.5. Later only the Tessar was available. The 6 x 13 cm model appeared around type 2 or 3.

The fitted case with this example has a compartment in the lid for filters and a cable release.
